The staff & volunteers of NHH collaborate with the following organizations:
North Hawaii Community Hospital provides a care setting for our hospice patients when families need a break or when symptoms cannot be managed at home. Our hospice support services can also be delivered to hospital patients for a limited number of days while they remain hospitalized.
Hale Ho’ola Hamakua: Located in Honoka’a, this long-term care facility provides room and board for hospice patients under Medicaid and certain HMSA plans. A facility can be useful for patients without family care at home.
Bannix Home Medical Equipment: Located in Waimea, this family owned provider of home oxygen and medical equipment contracts with North Hawaii Hospice to provide all necessary medical and equipment needs for our patients. North Hawaii Hospice makes all of the arrangements at no extra charge to our patients.
Hospice Pharmacia: This national provider of expertise on hospice care provides 24/7 consultations with hospice pharmacists for our nursing staff. They also work with many local pharmacies in our area to provide all the medications related to the hospice diagnosis.
Pharmacare Hawaii: This Hawaii based pharmacy provider specializes in infusion services for our hospice patients that require infusion pumps, pharmaceuticals or nutritional products.
Other Affiliations
NHH also works closely to address end-of-life care issues at the state level and remains current with training and information sharing on the national level through involvement with the following organizations:
- Kokua Mau: A statewide partnership of individuals and organizations. This group works with the general public and with the leaders of healthcare and government to improve end-of-life care in Hawaii.
- National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization: North Hawaii Hospice is a member in good standing with NHPCO, a national organization providing education and advocacy for hospice organizations and patients. (Click on the link to be connected to the wonderful resources offered)
- VASH Hawai’i Island: With the Visitors Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH), North Hawaii Community Hospital, Hospice of Kona, and Kona Hospital, we assist visitors to the Big Island who experience a sudden illness or death while here.
