For patients and loved ones facing a life-limiting illness we deliver the following services in the comfort of home:
- Pain and symptom management
- Medication and durable medical equipment
- Assistance with personal care
- Education and support for caregivers
- Counseling about grief, loss, and bereavement
- Assistance with handling unfinished business, whether spiritual, emotional, financial, or social
- Respite care and pain and symptom management in a hospital when necessary
All of these services are offered free of charge. Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, or NHH (through fundraising) covers the cost of hospice care.
For the Community, we provide:
- free educational programs concerning end-of-life issues
- free one-to-one and group grief and bereavement counseling for all ages
- a lending library with books and videos about end-of-life issues
- information and resources for people whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses
- community memorial ceremonies to remember loved-ones
We also provide:
- consultation on care plans designed by Public Health Nursing for the frail elderly in our community
- bereavement support for community schools, hospitals and faith communities
- public speakers for schools, health care providers, employers, and community groups on end-of-life issues
For Visitors, we provide:
- An Emergency Bereavement Support Team: NHH is a part of an Emergency Bereavement Team that assists visitors who experience a loss or death while on the Island of Hawaii. NHH staff members respond to calls for grief and bereavement counseling.
